September 22 - Small Things

Small things help.

Such as waking up early on a gloriously fine morning and cycling into work before the traffic has built up.

Such as doing some stuff that I'd been putting off for the last week or so.

Such as clearing my desk at work of myriad piles of paper, chucking out stuff I didn't need, and collating the rest into one big pile. Then ordering it in terms of priority and actually starting to work through it.

Such as leaving work 40 mins early.

Such as picking a yellow tulip from the garden, planted about two years ago, and bringing it in to give to Deb as she sat nursing Matthew.

Such as going out after dinner for a drive around the bays on the south coast of Wellington, and seeing the ships glinting in the dying sun in Cook Strait, and stopping for a latte and cake.

Such as driving up to the heights and looking out over the city at night.

Such as discovering a new rock I can do standing up that calms Matthew and having him fall asleep in my arms.

Such as sending Debbie to bed early and doing the dishes so she doesn't have to face them tomorrow.

I'm smiling reading back over what I've written. It feels good.
