our cat - the slut it's true! we were woken at some ungodly hour this morning by the unearthly yowling of a cat. deb got up to investigate. as she reported, there was this rather handsome ginger tomcat sitting just outside the cat door, with gump sitting just inside, giving him lovelorn looks as he yowled his sordid cat lust at our little baby. he ran off as soon as he saw her, but then gump took off through the cat door after him. i shudder to think what happened next, all i know it that gump had a big smile this morning as she ate her breakfast, and this afternoon she's been lounging luxuriously outside on the path waiting for the tom to come back. i tell you, it's much easier being a parent to boys. matthew never gets into this kinda trouble!

3 - And The Baby Snatches Victory From The Jaws Of Defeat We'd agreed to go out today for a walk around the waterfront. It's been another gorgeous day, blue skies, no wind, hot, so we wanted to get outside, see some sights, get some exercise. So that was fine. But it's hard to arrange a schedule around Matthew's feeds and sleeps, and in between times I was trying to wax another door. So I said to Deb she'd have to push the outing as I was concentrating on the door. I was 2/3 of the way through finishing the door when Deb came in the room making it very clear she was pissed off at me because I obviously didn't really want to go out, and she'd been stuck inside for five days and wanted to spend some time with Matthew and I outside of the house. I immediately start retaliating by saying she can't have it both ways, me working on the house and spending lots of time with her, and voices were raised, and things said, and we ended up sitting across from each other in the living room stewing at each other. Luckily Matthew giggled at this point, and it's hard not to realise the absurdity of your little arguments when your baby giggles at you. I think I like this baby, you know? It ended up a lovely afternoon strolling along by the sea. On a day like this, Wellington is one of the most beautiful cities in the world - steep hills down to the harbour, sparkling blue water, yachts and people swimming. We walked along, taking turns pushing Matthew and stopped for a milkshake and ice-cream before walking back. Wow! 8:00pm, we've just right now had an earthquake. Not a huge one, but enough to make the whole house shake. Always a half scary, half kinda exciting moment. Methinks a good point to stop this entry though!
