music i tend to think that the best albums are the ones that don't hit you in the face immediately; the ones that you listen to the first time and aren't at all sure about; the ones that slowly creep into your soul. whitechocolatespaceegg by liz phair is an album like that. i listened to it tonight while doing the dishes. it's a wonderful album

8 - The Rainbow "oh god debbie, quick, come look at this" And outside, across the small valley, with the rainclouds dark grey against the far hills, was a perfectly formed double rainbow. The main rainbow was strong and solid, all the colours vibrant, and the secondary one mirrored it across the sky, both forming perfect arcs. Rainbows are a cliché, but sometimes, you know, you see through the cliché to the truth it was based on. I felt like that tonight, standing on the front porch, my arms wrapped around Debbie, her head resting just under my chin, smell of hair in my nostrils. Just holding her. Feeling like we needed an omen like that, just right then. She was stressed, tired, worried, suspicious. I was thinking that she fitted my arms so perfectly. Matthew was fussing in his bed, had been squawking and squealing and crying for a couple of hours. We just stood for a few minutes in the cool air, looking at the rainbow, watching till we got too cold and went inside.
