The best husband in the whole world ever
20 September, 2002
I awoke this morning from a deep sleep, feeling not exactly refreshed, but certainly better than yesterday morning. I felt that I'd at least had enough sleep to put me in a good frame of mind for the day.
Michael was standing over the bed, holding Joshua, and handing me a folded piece of paper. "Happy birthday" he said. I was half asleep as I opened up the piece of paper. There was a picture of a camera on the top, and at the bottom Michael had written "Happy birthday! We wanted you to have something just for you! Love Michael, Matthew and Joshua"
"That's a lovely card." I said, smiling. How sweet to put a picture of a camera on the top. I knew we couldn't afford a digital camera right now, but the thought was there.
"It's yours." Michael said to me. "It'll be arriving in about one week."
"Huh?" my sleepy brain tried to comprehend what he was saying.
"I've bought you that digital camera. On Ebay. It's new, from a camera shop in Canada. Much cheaper than I could have bought it here. It's a really good camera."
"You bought me a digital camera?"
"Yeah. Elliot and I spent most of yesterday morning looking at camera reviews, and looking on Ebay for a good deal. I almost got one through an auction, but this new one was actually even cheaper."
"I'm going to get a digital camera?" I struggled to sit upright. "Can we afford that?"
"No, but I thought what the hell. If I'd asked you, you'd never have let me buy it for you. And you deserve it. You've had such a rough winter."
So... this is the camera that I'm getting, couriered all the way from Canada! Should be here in about a week. I'm so excited. I'm not sure how we're going to afford it just at the moment, but I'm letting Michael worry about finances for now. Sometimes you have to lean on somebody else, and not take the whole weight of the world on your own shoulders. And we'll survive. We always do.
Did I ever mention that I have the best husband in the whole world? Ever.
