100 things about me

  1. My middle name is Lynn.
  2. It is not a name I would've chosen for myself.
  3. My last name is unusual.
  4. My husband says it's typically American to have an unusual surname.
  5. I'm a Virgo.
  6. But I don't really believe in astrology.
  7. I do, however, believe in ghosts.
  8. I'm the youngest of five children.
  9. Maybe I was spoiled. Just a little.
  10. My favourite movie of all time is Until the End of the World by Wim Wenders.
  11. My second favourite at the moment would have to be The Matrix.
  12. I generally like older men.
  13. But I'll make an exception for Keanu Reeves.
  14. My body clock is geared towards staying up late and sleeping in the next day.
  15. Since having children my body clock has been severely compromised.
  16. I used to be exceptionally fit.
  17. I once cycled one of the tallest mountain passes in the Pyrenees, with pannier bags on my bike.
  18. I'd rather cycle up a mountain than into a head wind.
  19. I'm not fit anymore. Unfortunately.
  20. When I was 9, I stepped on an axe and sliced the bottom of my foot. I still have the scar.
  21. I love to swim. I love being in water.
  22. I love everything about Christmas.
  23. Especially decorating the Christmas tree.
  24. And seeing Christmas lights at night
  25. I will never get used to having Christmas in the summertime.
  26. I have really small hands and feet.
  27. Michael says I have the smallest fingers of anyone he's ever seen.
  28. I would not have made a good piano player.
  29. I can do this weird thing with my fingers where I bend just the top joint of my fingers while leaving the second joint straight.
  30. I can also roll my tongue.
  31. I regret never having learned to play a musical instrument.
  32. I love choir music and hymns, even though I'm not remotely religious.
  33. I used to wear contact lenses, but now I wear my glasses pretty much all the time.
  34. The best sport ever in the whole world has to be cricket.
  35. And it must be test cricket. None of that one-day rubbish.
  36. I loved being pregnant.
  37. Except for the morning sickness and the very end when my belly was so big I thought for sure it would burst.
  38. I've had two caesareans.
  39. They were both emergency caesareans.
  40. My favourite colour is blue.
  41. I drink too much Coke.
  42. I took 12 years of French, through school and college.
  43. It still amazes me that I could sit in lectures given entirely French, and understand everything, and take notes in French.
  44. I spent 3 months in France cycling. Towards the end I could understand everything that was said to me, and carry on a reasonable conversation.
  45. I'm always late with birthday cards and things like that.
  46. This generally makes me not a very popular person amongst my in-laws who are quite good about that sort of thing.
  47. I really want to learn how to make quilts, but I can't sew.
  48. I failed Home Ec in the 8th grade because I didn't complete my sewing project.
  49. I rarely wear perfume. When I do, it's usually something by Givenchy.
  50. What do I like wearing? White tee-shirts and blue jeans.
  51. I get really cold in bed. Michael is like a furnace, only wearing a teeshirt at most. But I dress in layers and wear woolly socks.
  52. Sex is therefore usually preceded by the removal of many clothes.
  53. Which can be lots of fun in itself.
  54. Things I miss about not living in Maine anymore: snow, thunderstorms, Christmas in winter, autumn leaves, my family.
  55. I usually hate playing computer games. Unless they're word games.
  56. I love word puzzles of all sorts - crosswords, anagrams, wordfinds. I also love logic puzzles.
  57. I used to write stories when I was growing up.
  58. I don't watch much television. But I do like: British mystery shows like Jonathan Creek and Lovejoy; Sex and the City; Scrubs; the Osbournes; Discovery Travel and Adventure; BBC World; cooking shows and house and garden type shows.
  59. I don't like: talk shows; reality television; cop shows.
  60. I really want to get a tattoo. I might for my 40th birthday.
  61. I'm a sucker for magazines of all sort. If I had lots of money, I'd have subscriptions to so many of them.
  62. I hate shopping for clothes. Hate it. I've just never been a very fashion-conscious person.
  63. I do, however, love shopping for underwear and shoes.
  64. I sometimes like to cook, if I have the time and good ingredients.
  65. I never iron clothes unless absolutely forced to.
  66. I hate housework. I do the bare minimum.
  67. I'm not a very good housewife.
  68. I rarely wear make up.
  69. I have blue eyes.
  70. I bite my fingernails.
  71. My body is not pierced anywhere. Not even my ears.
  72. At the moment my toenails are painted a sparkling pearly lilac colour. It's an interesting colour.
  73. I'm a really good and loyal friend.
  74. Did I mention that I like really nice underwear?.
  75. I am often very insecure.
  76. My ideal evening: Home alone with Michael. Kids with grandparents. Nice dinner. Long hot bath, candlelight, red wine. Sex. Cuddle. Sleep.
  77. You'd be amazed how difficult it is to accomplish the ideal evening when you have children.
  78. I swear too much.
  79. I like most genres of music, but I have to say that I really can't get into house, hiphop, trance or dance music. Or whatever else it's called. I think it is truly an age thing.
  80. I'm not a collector of anything.
  81. I would like to collect artwork. We have two originals by New Zealand artists at the moment, but I'd like to buy more.
  82. My interior décor style is generally minimalist, but not austere. I don't like clutter. I do like warmth and warm tones.
  83. I can't imagine not living by the ocean. I would feel claustrophobic if I was landlocked.
  84. I love the West Coast of New Zealand and its wild, windswept beaches.
  85. My favourite candy is licorice and black jelly beans.
  86. Our house is filled with books.
  87. I'd have more books if we had the space.
  88. There is nothing like a good single malt whisky.
  89. I hate eating things which are light and fluffy with lots of air in them - things like marshmallow, meringue, Cadbury flakes, cotton candy.
  90. I rarely let people take photographs of me. I hate it.
  91. I'm not particularly patriotic, but I'll always be American even though New Zealand is now my home.
  92. I have a weird accent. Most Americans think I'm either British, Australian or a New Zealander. Most New Zealanders think I'm Canadian. They reason that Canadians don't have as strong an accent as Americans.
  93. People have also sometimes thought I was Irish. Where they get that from, I have no idea.
  94. I have visited many countries, but not enough.
  95. Two things I regret never having learned how to do: sail and read a compass.
  96. I keep reminding myself that there is still time.
  97. People say my kids look like me. Especially Joshua.
  98. I think my kids look like themselves.
  99. My kids were the best thing that ever happened to me.
