100 things about me
- My middle name is Lynn.
- It is not a name I would've chosen for myself.
- My last name is unusual.
- My husband says it's typically American to have an unusual surname.
- I'm a Virgo.
- But I don't really believe in astrology.
- I do, however, believe in ghosts.
- I'm the youngest of five children.
- Maybe I was spoiled. Just a little.
- My favourite movie of all time is Until the End of the World by Wim Wenders.
- My second favourite at the moment would have to be The Matrix.
- I generally like older men.
- But I'll make an exception for Keanu Reeves.
- My body clock is geared towards staying up late and sleeping in the next day.
- Since having children my body clock has been severely compromised.
- I used to be exceptionally fit.
- I once cycled one of the tallest mountain passes in the Pyrenees, with pannier bags on my bike.
- I'd rather cycle up a mountain than into a head wind.
- I'm not fit anymore. Unfortunately.
- When I was 9, I stepped on an axe and sliced the bottom of my foot. I still have the scar.
- I love to swim. I love being in water.
- I love everything about Christmas.
- Especially decorating the Christmas tree.
- And seeing Christmas lights at night
- I will never get used to having Christmas in the summertime.
- I have really small hands and feet.
- Michael says I have the smallest fingers of anyone he's ever seen.
- I would not have made a good piano player.
- I can do this weird thing with my fingers where I bend just the top joint of my fingers while leaving the second joint straight.
- I can also roll my tongue.
- I regret never having learned to play a musical instrument.
- I love choir music and hymns, even though I'm not remotely religious.
- I used to wear contact lenses, but now I wear my glasses pretty much all the time.
- The best sport ever in the whole world has to be cricket.
- And it must be test cricket. None of that one-day rubbish.
- I loved being pregnant.
- Except for the morning sickness and the very end when my belly was so big I thought for sure it would burst.
- I've had two caesareans.
- They were both emergency caesareans.
- My favourite colour is blue.
- I drink too much Coke.
- I took 12 years of French, through school and college.
- It still amazes me that I could sit in lectures given entirely French, and understand everything, and take notes in French.
- I spent 3 months in France cycling. Towards the end I could understand everything that was said to me, and carry on a reasonable conversation.
- I'm always late with birthday cards and things like that.
- This generally makes me not a very popular person amongst my in-laws who are quite good about that sort of thing.
- I really want to learn how to make quilts, but I can't sew.
- I failed Home Ec in the 8th grade because I didn't complete my sewing project.
- I rarely wear perfume. When I do, it's usually something by Givenchy.
- What do I like wearing? White tee-shirts and blue jeans.
- I get really cold in bed. Michael is like a furnace, only wearing a teeshirt at most. But I dress in layers and wear woolly socks.
- Sex is therefore usually preceded by the removal of many clothes.
- Which can be lots of fun in itself.
- Things I miss about not living in Maine anymore: snow, thunderstorms, Christmas in winter, autumn leaves, my family.
- I usually hate playing computer games. Unless they're word games.
- I love word puzzles of all sorts - crosswords, anagrams, wordfinds. I also love logic puzzles.
- I used to write stories when I was growing up.
- I don't watch much television. But I do like: British mystery shows like Jonathan Creek and Lovejoy; Sex and the City; Scrubs; the Osbournes; Discovery Travel and Adventure; BBC World; cooking shows and house and garden type shows.
- I don't like: talk shows; reality television; cop shows.
- I really want to get a tattoo. I might for my 40th birthday.
- I'm a sucker for magazines of all sort. If I had lots of money, I'd have subscriptions to so many of them.
- I hate shopping for clothes. Hate it. I've just never been a very fashion-conscious person.
- I do, however, love shopping for underwear and shoes.
- I sometimes like to cook, if I have the time and good ingredients.
- I never iron clothes unless absolutely forced to.
- I hate housework. I do the bare minimum.
- I'm not a very good housewife.
- I rarely wear make up.
- I have blue eyes.
- I bite my fingernails.
- My body is not pierced anywhere. Not even my ears.
- At the moment my toenails are painted a sparkling pearly lilac colour. It's an interesting colour.
- I'm a really good and loyal friend.
- Did I mention that I like really nice underwear?.
- I am often very insecure.
- My ideal evening: Home alone with Michael. Kids with grandparents. Nice dinner. Long hot bath, candlelight, red wine. Sex. Cuddle. Sleep.
- You'd be amazed how difficult it is to accomplish the ideal evening when you have children.
- I swear too much.
- I like most genres of music, but I have to say that I really can't get into house, hiphop, trance or dance music. Or whatever else it's called. I think it is truly an age thing.
- I'm not a collector of anything.
- I would like to collect artwork. We have two originals by New Zealand artists at the moment, but I'd like to buy more.
- My interior décor style is generally minimalist, but not austere. I don't like clutter. I do like warmth and warm tones.
- I can't imagine not living by the ocean. I would feel claustrophobic if I was landlocked.
- I love the West Coast of New Zealand and its wild, windswept beaches.
- My favourite candy is licorice and black jelly beans.
- Our house is filled with books.
- I'd have more books if we had the space.
- There is nothing like a good single malt whisky.
- I hate eating things which are light and fluffy with lots of air in them - things like marshmallow, meringue, Cadbury flakes, cotton candy.
- I rarely let people take photographs of me. I hate it.
- I'm not particularly patriotic, but I'll always be American even though New Zealand is now my home.
- I have a weird accent. Most Americans think I'm either British, Australian or a New Zealander. Most New Zealanders think I'm Canadian. They reason that Canadians don't have as strong an accent as Americans.
- People have also sometimes thought I was Irish. Where they get that from, I have no idea.
- I have visited many countries, but not enough.
- Two things I regret never having learned how to do: sail and read a compass.
- I keep reminding myself that there is still time.
- People say my kids look like me. Especially Joshua.
- I think my kids look like themselves.
- My kids were the best thing that ever happened to me.
