Rock And Roll!

So, Sunday night we rocked out, Debbie and I. We went and saw Paul Kelly when he played in Wellington. It was wonderful — it's been so long snce I've been to a live concert that I just drank it up. I didn't know most of the songs, but it didn't matter, it was the being there, and the sound, and the atmosphere. We were right at the front, probably 10 feet from the band. He played three encores, no one wanted it to end. And as I said to Deb, “You can't start introducing the new baby to good music too soon!”

And let me tell you below just how decadent and rock'n'roll it all was!

Hip young crowd — I'd venture to say we were right on the average age at the concert, maybe even on the young side.
All seating, no dancing — Yes indeed, it was at a cinema, we all sat down and rocked out.
Yawning — I actually saw the keyboard player yawn during the gig! I'm sure it wasn't because he was bored, but more that he was over the afore-mentioned average age.
Ice cream — I confess, I bought a vanilla ice-cream cone at the start and ate in my seat. How rock and roll is that? I haven't done anything that wild since I saw Lou Reed in London — another sit-down theatre venue, another ice-cream cone.
Drink — People drank to excess, as they're wont to do at occasions like this. I've never seen so many bottle of water being drunk outside of major sports event people. People were sipping all night! Deb even made me go and get her one at the interval.
Drugs — It was just a shame we didn't have more. Deb leaned across to me halfway through and whispered, “I can feel the Panadol beginning to wear off.”
